The very first St. Patrick's Day parade took place not in Ireland, but in the United States. Irish soldiers, serving in the English Military, marched through New York City on March 17, 1762.
And the story about the snakes? It isn't true. It has long been said that St. Patrick once stood on a hilltop and banished all the snakes from Ireland. In fact, the island nation was never the home to any snakes.

St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Punch
1 pint lime sherbet
1 6-oz can frozen limeade concentrate, slightly thawed
Lemon-lime carbonated beverage, chilled
Additional scoops of lime sherbet
Sliced kiwi, oranges or strawberries for optional garnish
Place first three ingredients in covered blender and blend until smooth and frothy. Divide among six glasses. Add lemon-lime soda to fill glass. Top each with a scoop of sherbet and garnish with fruit, if desired. Makes six servings.
